From: Gordon Davies [gordon.davies@kcl.ac.uk] Sent: Thursday, 06 December, 2001 18:12 To: cinzia.da.via@cern.ch Cc: michael.moll@cern.ch; christian.joram@cern.ch; alison.mainwood@kcl.ac.uk Subject: proposal For the proposal to the LHCC : Institution : King's College London. Contact : Professor Gordon Davies (details below). Personnel : Gordon Davies, Alison Mainwood, Shusaku Hayama (Research Assistant), Ruth Harding (PhD student), Tan Jin (PhD student). Time spent : The effects of radiation damage from ion implantation in silicon and SiGe alloys is the main work of the research assistant and the two PhD students. It is 50% of the research time of Gordon Davies, and 10% of the research time of Alison Mainwood. In addition, the great majority of the remainder of the research time of the two academic staff members (Davies and Mainwood) is devoted to radiation damage effects in diamond. Field of interest in this collaboration : damage produced by ions and other heavy particles; its evolution with temperature and the modelling of the relevant processes. Resources : Of primary interest here is optical spectroscopic equipment, especially Fourier transform photoluminescence / absorption spectrometers for the near infrared spectral region. Other relevant equipment in the research group is : epr spectrometers, scanning near field optical microscopy, confocal microscopy. We will comment on the draft proposal in the near future.
